About The Department
The Department of Computer Science at San Francisco State University is a thriving hub of innovation, excellence, and inclusivity. Home to 15 tenured and tenure-track faculty, along with numerous adjuncts, lecturers, and teaching assistants, the department offers a vibrant academic environment that supports a diverse student body. Our research and teaching span classical and cutting-edge domains, with primary strengths in: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Advanced Computational Technologies like HPC and Quantum Computing, Cybersecurity and privacy, and Computer Science Education. We also excel in computing for life sciences, human–computer interaction, software engineering, systems, visualization, accessibility, security, and decision-support systems. Our academic programs include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and two Master’s options: an M.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Data Science & AI. We offer graduate certificates in Ethical AI – the first of its kind in the US – and Software Engineering. Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and/or undergraduate teaching in established coursework, mentoring and advising graduate and/or undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing program of creative work in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments.
Compensation
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) salary range is:
$113,000 to $116,000 annually (12 monthly payments per academic year).
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm ).
Professional development funds, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
