The Maricopa Association of Governments is seeking a qualified, team-oriented student in urban planning, Geography, Transportation Engineering, or related fields for a paid internship. Undergraduate students in their fourth year, graduate students, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. All applicants with relevant experience or coursework will be considered. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates looking to build experience in the transportation sector while making an impact on regional mobility.
We are seeking a Transportation Intern to assist with regional transportation planning studies and gain real-world exposure to transportation planning, public engagement, and contract management. The primary duties of the internship will include, but are not limited to:
Support the management and coordination of regional transportation studies.
Assist with contract management, ensuring project deliverables are met.
Engage with the public and key stakeholders, gathering input and feedback.
Conduct professional presentations to community groups, city and town councils.
Work alongside industry professionals in all aspects of transportation planning.
Support research, data collection, and analysis related to transportation studies.
Help draft reports, presentations, and public outreach materials. MAG firmly believes that all internships should contribute to an individual’s professional development and expects a commensurate degree of dedication to the position. The position will provide exposure to transportation planning and policy, intergovernmental relations, and transportation finance. It will also provide the opportunity to help shape the future of the region’s transportation network.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, detail oriented, able to work independently, and able to handle multiple tasks. The candidate must have a firm grasp of Microsoft’s Office Suite, a desire to learn about other technologies required, excellent written and oral communication skills as well as organizational skills. Critical thinking and a keen interest in finding ways to do better are a necessity for the position.
Even though the position assumes flexible hours, applicants will be expected to work at least 20 hours per week on average. The length of internship will be determined based on candidate’s preferences, qualifications and performance.
