Our Jr. Lifeguard Program is more than just a class, it’s a hands-on experience that equips youth with essential water safety, CPR, and rescue skills. By the time they’re old enough, they’re ready to step into their first job as a certified lifeguard. It’s a fun, skill-building program that builds confidence, responsibility, and a path to employment at the Y and beyond.

Bringing Water Safety to Where It’s Needed Most At the YMCA, we believe every child deserves access to life-saving water safety skills—no matter where they live. That’s why our Safety Around Water (SAW) program is more than swim lessons. It’s about empowering families with skills that save lives and strengthening our communities. This summer, we’re taking that mission even further by bringing SAW lessons directly to apartment communities. Our instructors travel to residential pools to make sure children who may not have easy access to lessons can still learn critical survival skills, right in their own neighborhood. One of our incredible instructors, Brissa Espino Ceron, put it perfectly: “Bringing these safety lessons directly to apartment communities is making a huge difference by allowing children to explore the water but also teaching them the survival skills they need to be safe when they’re on their own.” At the Y, water safety is central to our mission of building healthy, connected, and secure communities.
