Last night I attended the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati Welcoming Week Dinner, an inspiring reminder that unity is stronger than division. Great to connect with friends and see so many come together to celebrate belonging and community across Greater Cincinnati. #WelcomingWeek #YMCA #Community #Unity #GreaterCincinnati #YForAll #Cincinnati #NorthernKentucky

I had the honor of visiting the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati these past two days. I was especially thankful to be joined by colleagues Eva Long, M.Ed. Barry Saunders whose insights made this experience even more meaningful. 🔗 Team Up Project As a proud Team Up partner, the Cincinnati Y is living out its commitment to bridgebuilding—creating spaces where people across differences can connect, reflect, and grow. We met with CEO Jorge Perez & Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer Kate Hanisian to better understand how achievement, relationship & belonging is deeply integrated into everything the Y does. At the Gamble Nippert YMCA, we saw belonging in action through in all their programs. 🌍 Welcoming Week Welcoming Week came to life through a community dinner at Central Parkway YMCA, where staff, volunteers, and neighbors gathered to share stories, food, and connection. It was a beautiful example of how the Y is creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and welcomed At the Music Resource Center, we joined a Reflective Structured Dialogue session hosted in partnership with EquaSion—a non-partisan civic organization rooted in interfaith dialogue. EquaSion works to foster greater understanding, compassion, and civic engagement across faith communities in Greater Cincinnati. Their mission to help people discover shared humanity and work together in community deeply aligns with the Y’s bridgebuilding efforts. 💪 Volunteerism That Builds Bridges One of the most inspiring parts of our visit was learning about the Cincinnati Y’s volunteerism strategy. Through thoughtful leadership, training, and storytelling, volunteers are not just supporting programs—they’re building relationships, fostering belonging, and helping shape the future of their communities. Their work is a living example of how service can be a bridge between people, experiences, and purpose. The Cincinnati Y is showing us what it truly means to live its strategic vision—to be a place where achievement is nurtured, relationships are built, and belonging is felt deeply. Through intentional bridgebuilding, they are helping shape a future where communities are not just welcoming, but woven together by trust, purpose, and shared humanity. 🕊️ A Powerful Ending We ended our visit with a stop at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, where we experienced the Faith & (in)Justice exhibit—a deeply moving exploration of how faith traditions have shaped America’s journey toward freedom. The exhibit invites reflection on the role of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism in social movements and includes powerful artifacts like Muhammad Ali’s signed gloves, a praise house from the Black Church tradition, and Jefferson’s edited Bible. It was a fitting close to a visit centered on connection, reflection, and the ongoing work of building a more compassionate world. Many thanks again to everyone we connected with!

What fun to volunteer at YMCA of Greater Cincinnati 's WELCOME WEEK community dinner last night! The organizers did an outstanding job putting together an interesting variety of foods, running a challenging and enjoyable reflective program, and showing off the aY's goal to be a place/space/environment that welcomes ALL. As a bonus, I got to serve with my friends like Claire Miller, have a surprise reunion with AMAZING high school friends Kelly Trush and Kate Schroder, and hang out with two new friends/artists: 2 year old Desee and "Silver Sneakers" Monique!

#YforAll | It's #WelcomeWeek at the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati.... We cleaned up our house and invited everyone over for dinner! Author, Kate Bowler, in her book "The Lives We Actually Have: 100 Blessings for Imperfect Days... she writes in her blessing 'for when it's been a great day' ---- How is it, God, that such a day could unfold so naturally, and, at the same time feel orchestrated for perfection? It's as if it poured itself into my soul and became the essential vitamin I didn't know I was missing,' Grateful for my fellow Y-Leaders who are committed to JOY and BELONGING.

The Interfaith Employee Resource Group at the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati sponsored a talk & tour at the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati -- We had Y Leaders from all over our Association join! Grateful to our new friend and tour guide, Shabana Shakir, for her time and teachings--- We're focused on exercising our bridge-building muscles --- How can we become more welcoming and belonging FOR ALL? Here are some great questions to prompt your thinking around BRIDGE BUILDING... (We use these questions as part of our exit surveys!) After this experience... 1. I am more confident to engage others who I perceive as different from me. 2. I feel more equipped to handle difficult conversations that might arise with others across differences. 3. I am less likely to avoid people who are different from me. 4. This experience helped me understand people who are different from me by imagining how things look from their perspective. 5. I am more likely to place myself in the shoes of a person who sees the world differently than I do. #bettertogether #welcomingFORALL #FORALL

Director of Operations | Music Educator

We are wrapping up an incredible summer of camps at Music Resource Center - Cincinnati | YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. Students worked in groups to write, produce, record, and perform their own original music at our Producer Camp and Musician Camp. These camps gave young artists a space to grow creatively, build confidence, and collaborate with their peers. Listen to the full collection of original tracks here: https://lnkd.in/gh84Zz5w Watch the student-led podcasts and live performance videos: https://lnkd.in/gFyzuhHV https://lnkd.in/ggtxpZuN It is truly amazing what teens can accomplish when provided the resources and opportunity. The work speaks for itself. We're proud of every single camper who showed up, created, and shared their talents this summer. Check out photos from each camp group below and help us celebrate an amazing summer! A huge thank you to our incredible team. None of this is possible without you. Thank you for listening to every big idea and helping turn it into reality. Charles Watt, Claire Miller, Azaria, Elijah, Carl, and Bryce.

As August comes to a close, I want to share a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took an active role in keeping kids safe in and around the water this summer. With our Phones Down, Eyes Up safety campaign, YMCA of the USA wanted to remind all caregivers of the importance of minimizing distractions and staying focused when kids are in or near the water.    Kudos to those who signed the Phones Down, Eyes Up Pledge and championed water safety with your friends and family. Summer may be (almost) over, but water safety skills are important year-round. Learn more about water safety and see what programs might be available at your local YMCA. https://lnkd.in/gFMihpyq

  • Yesterday, volunteers, staff, and participants from the Y Marketplace, Music Resource Center, Camp Ernst, Walnut Hills Early Learning Center, and our 21st Century Program came together at the Heritage Club Luncheon. By sharing their personal Y stories, they reminded us how experiences, connections, and community impact are what truly bring the Y mission to life!
