  • During her first trimester, Philadelphia couple Tim and Shaneka learned Shaneka was carrying conjoined twins. Their medical provider did not know if the twins could be carried to term, so the couple sought a second opinion at CHOP. A lengthy evaluation, including an ultrasound, MRI, and fetal echocardiogram, revealed the babies had excellent chances for separation—and healthy lives outside of the womb. After their early delivery on Sept. 29, 2023, Amari and Javar were moved to our Newborn/Infant Intensive Care Unit (N/IICU) to ensure they were stabilized and growing. At almost 11 months old, a team of specialists performed the 8-hour surgery they had been planning for since before the boys were born. • Injuries involving golf carts and children have increased over the past decade, and new research from our Orthopedic Center sheds light on why this trend is a growing concern. Presented at American Academy of Pediatrics 2025 National Conference & Exhibition, our team found that nearly half of these injuries in younger children resulted from falls or ejections, while teens were more frequently involved in collisions or rollovers. This research underscores the need to rethink how kids and teens use them — and calls for stronger safety education and regulation to prevent avoidable injuries. #AAP2025 Read the full study and recommendations here: http://ms.spr.ly/6043sseYH.

  • While seed oils have been blamed for chronic inflammation, the truth is more complex. There’s a lot of fear out there about oils like sunflower or soybean, but they provide essential fatty acids - nutrients children’s bodies can’t produce on their own.  Seed oils: ✅ Help cells grow strong  ✅ Support immune health  ✅ Keep inflammation in check Ongoing research is exploring how different fats affect heart, brain, and bone health. Rather than eliminating seed oils, we need to find the right balance of fats in our diet. Nutrition is never one-size-fits-all. Follow along every Wednesday as we break down myths about kids’ health.
