  • George Westinghouse would marvel at the incredible advances in nuclear technology that our namesake company has made over the last 75 years. About half of all the world’s nuclear power plants are based on Westinghouse nuclear technology.  Last week, “Bricks George” unveiled our advanced modular AP1000® PWR bricks set. You can see his bricks engineering buddy working below on a new AP1000 unit, just like the ones we are deploying across the world.  Now, we're giving away five Westinghouse bricks sets to people who reshare this post. We'll draw names on Monday from everyone who reposted! You can build a mini-Westinghouse nuclear reactor at home!

  • Completing the two partially built AP1000® advanced modular reactors at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in South Carolina can create more than $7 billion of gross domestic product (GDP) for the state while supporting 7,300 high-paying South Carolina jobs annually during the construction phase of the project, according to a new report from PwC on the project's economic impact. Once operational, the two AP1000 units at V.C. Summer would create an additional $1.6 billion of annual South Carolina GDP and support more than 2,700 jobs in the state annually over an 80-year lifetime, the PwC analysis found. • Major news in Poland! The European Commission (European Union) has given the green light for state aid to support Poland's inaugural nuclear power facility in Choczewo, featuring three advanced AP1000® modular reactors. This important development paves the way for signing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract and starting the plant’s construction. Poland intends to commence construction of the first AP1000 unit by 2028, targeting operational status by 2036. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) and Bechtel Corporation for this historic project!

  • Bricks George Westinghouse and his Bricks engineering buddy have done it! They completed our new advanced modular AP1000® PWR building blocks set. Constructing a real AP1000® reactor is getting easier and faster! The sixth AP1000 reactor went into operation in the U.S. state of Georgia in 2024. It was 30% faster to build and 20% less expensive than the fifth one completed just the year before. The AP1000 reactor’s simple, modular design comes with the smallest footprint of any advanced gigawatt reactor design and pumps out more than 1,100 megawatts of emissions-free electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That’s enough power for 750,000 homes!

  • Sean Jones who leads Westinghouse's AP1000® modular reactor supply chain, talked on The Hub Canada podcast about Canada’s role in the global nuclear energy supply chain, "We have over 350 suppliers within our network of Canadian suppliers... with this starting base of a robust Canadian supply chain, we have a strong backbone," said Sean in regards to global nuclear deployment. • #ThrowbackThursday to 68 years ago this week in December 1957 when the Shippingport Atomic Power Station in Pennsylvania went critical ↪️ becoming the world’s first U.S. nuclear power plant to deliver electricity to the grid. The original reactor core was designed by Westinghouse and produced 68 megawatts at full power! ⚡ Today, the advanced AP1000® modular reactor supplies over 1 GW of electricity. • 💡 Clevis bolts: Key components in a nuclear reactor that position and support the reactor core for long-term plant operation. Ultrasonic inspections for clevis bolts help detect issues early, preventing failures that could disrupt operations or compromise safety. Westinghouse’s custom inspection tooling and ultrasonic testing (UT) technique: ✅ Delivers accurate, repeatable measurements ✅ Minimizes inspection time to less than one shift ✅ Is qualified to all bolting pattern configurations ✅ Meets requirements of Nuclear Energy Institute's Guideline for Management of Material Issues ✅ Provides results accepted by EPRI Discover how our inspections, as well as other clevis bolt services, sustain the longevity of plant operations: 🔗 More info: https://bit.ly/4ow77yv
