CEO, RobotLAB. The Largest, Most Experienced Robotics Company. Focused on making robots useful. Built franchise network that owns the last mile of robotics and AI. Author “our robotics future”, available on Amazon.

Tesla just unveiled its ~$30,000 humanoid robot, Optimus. Marc Benioff called it "unbelievable." But what happened next reveals why humanoid robots aren't ready for 2025: When Benioff asked the robot for directions to a Coke, it apologized for not having real-time info and offered to walk him to the kitchen instead. Then it froze completely. Just stood there, stuck, looking sideways while Benioff tried to interact with it. This is what happens when you bring these robots into real life. Benioff still tweeted it was the "dawn of the physical Agentforce revolution." Musk claims robots will represent a significant portion of Tesla's future value, with ambitious production targets. The internet wasn't convinced. One user mocked the movement saying it looked "like it's wearing a loaded diaper." Another called it the "worst humanoid demo I've seen." Some defended it, arguing they'll fix the responsiveness in time. Here's my perspective after 18 years in robotics: I genuinely want this tech to succeed. The vision is incredible. But when you bring these robots into actual environments, they're nowhere near the hype you see in presentations. Humanoid robots can do specific tasks very well. But they can't be human-like yet. They can't handle everything in every environment. And that's okay - innovation takes time. I run a B2B robotics business deploying thousands of robots nationwide. We can't just amplify manufacturer hype. We solve real problems today. Business owners ask 3 questions: What's my ROI? How fast does it pay back? What's the downtime? A $30,000 humanoid that works 50% of the time loses to a $10,000 specialized robot with 99% uptime every time. The development challenges mirror what we see industry-wide. When robots move from controlled demos to unpredictable environments, issues compound. Minor errors cascade into complete freezes. Each problem is solvable individually, but integration is where complexity explodes. I believe humanoid robots will eventually get there. But today we're 5-7 years from reliable daily operations - about where autonomous vehicles were in 2015. That's not pessimism. It's experience from the field. While we wait for humanoids, "boring" robots are quietly revolutionizing industries. Warehouse robots cut fulfillment time by 80%. Floor-cleaning robots free up 30+ hours weekly. They're not sexy, but they solve real problems today. Don't confuse "viral" with "ready." The real future is being built by robots solving specific problems with 99.9% reliability. Last month, we deployed robots that reduced sorting errors by 94% - reliable automation that pays for itself in 8 months. If you're evaluating robotics for your business: Support the vision, but invest in what delivers today.
