What Paul Russo's dog has taught me in my first month as a Growth Engineer : Sure, it’s good to rest and recover every once in a while. But when your inner monologue tells you to bark, you’ve gotta bark. My inner monologue calls to me every day “Parakk” (shoutout Lucas Czajka). And that’s my signal to bark. I bark at Clay because my tables are too complex and my functions aren’t working as intended. I bark at HubSpot because one minute the data was there and the next it was gone. Sometimes, through it all, I bark at my coworkers too, because we all want to build impactful products. But the stress of perfection and passion triggers the monologue to “bark.” When the dust settles, you realize the barking is a bond between you and your passion for your work, your colleagues, and the vision for what can become reality. It’s about pushing, questioning, and demanding excellence from ourselves and those around us. So, to those who’ve muzzled their inner monologue for too long: let the barks out. Go. Build. Become obsessed. Pour your passion into your build. Embrace the discomfort, the friction, the "barking". That's where growth happens. Got kicked out of YC HQ for an ice sculpture (Y Combinator not your fault) I walked into a CTO only event as a sales rep and built an ice sculpture to blend in as a sign of good faith Got iced by a heartless cold man It doesn't matter, we are still having an electric time. SF IS SO BACK. 8 weeks into Pump.co and I’m rethinking the post-college dread. College was elite: friends next door, tons of free time and unlimited humor. I assumed that chapter was closed.
