Fishing in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence presents real challenges: limited visibility, shifting gear, and busy waters. To help address these risks, Publix Super Markets funded Smart Buoys for three Cape Breton harvesters. The Blue Ocean Gear buoys clip onto existing floats and stream live locations to onboard navigation — reducing time searching for their crab traps and lowering the potential for whale entanglements when traps go missing or displaced. Practical, proven, and immediately useful, this technology supports safer operations and healthier oceans. Thanks to Marc LeFort for the photo. Meet Andy, Director of Supply Chain Planning and Procurement. In his role he, manages a department made up of several teams, all committed to ensuring the right product reaches the right place at the right time.    Andy’s Publix journey started in retail in 2008 as a grocery stock clerk. From there, he transitioned to a grocery replenishment specialist before accepting a job at the Publix Corporate Office after graduating college.    “It started as just a high school job, but I soon realized that Publix was a place that I could make a career out of,” said Andy.    Andy held different positions within the Corporate Purchasing department before being promoted to his current role in October 2024   “My favorite thing about working for Publix is having the opportunity to make a positive impact on our customers, no matter what role you are in. Every position at Publix is important and contributes to our mission to be the premier quality food retailer in the world,” said Andy.     After 17 years, Andy is still passionate about Publix and the career opportunities offered.   “Publix offers an endless variety of career choices. Regardless of your career path or interests, there is something for you. Publix is a company that rewards its hardworking associates with ample opportunities for advancement,” said Andy.

April is National Volunteer Month! At Publix, we believe in giving back. Publix Serves is our community program where our associates volunteer to help the environment and fight hunger in the eight states where we operate. Meet Cindy, Business Development Director of Dry Grocery/Non-Food Consumables. Cindy’s Publix journey started in 1990 as a part-time expense analyst in accounting. After graduating college, she decided to go full-time. “I had many thoughts about pursuing something outside of Publix but was always encouraged by my managers and fellow associates to be on the lookout for job postings, that there were so many different departments to work in at Publix,” said Cindy. After spending a few years in accounting, Cindy became interested in purchasing and landed a role as the Facilities Purchasing procuring equipment for the deli department. From there, she transitioned into Corporate Purchasing as a logistics analyst and never looked back. During her 28 years in Corporate Purchasing her roles have been Pricing Analyst, Category Analyst, Buyer, Category Manager and now Director. Cindy is a perfect example of the endless opportunities that are available with a career at Publix. “My favorite thing about Publix is the relationships with fellow associates, mentoring future leaders and being able to continue to grow as an individual. Publix truly provides so many opportunities, as Mr. George always said, 'always be prepared because there is so much opportunity,'" said Cindy.
