Illuminating Chemical Manufacturing™

About us

Syzygy Plasmonics is decarbonizing the chemical industry, responsible for almost 20 percent of industrial CO2 emissions, by using light instead of combustion to drive chemical reactions. Our Rigel reactor cells channel light into high-efficiency photocatalysts, delivering a lower-carbon, lower-cost solution for chemical producers. While many startups are bringing singular technologies to market, Syzygy's reactor cells are designed to support multiple reactions. Our reactors are currently available for CO2-to-eFuels projects, and for producing hydrogen from Ammonia e-Cracking or Combustion-Free Steam Methane Reforming. With additional reactions in development, Syzygy is on a path to make a broad section of chemical production sustainable. Our vision is to create a world where chemicals, fuels, and fertilizer are low-cost, carbon-neutral, and accessible to everyone. Our mission is to prevent a gigaton of CO2 from entering the atmosphere by 2040. Follow us to keep up with the latest on our journey toward a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow!

  • Our own Trevor Best recently joined the Sustainability in the Air podcast by SimpliFlying to discuss how innovative technology is reshaping the path to net-zero aviation. In this episode, Trevor explores: ⚡ How Syzygy’s light-driven reactors enable new pathways for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) 🌱 The intersection of science, policy, and industry adoption 🚀 Why scaling breakthrough technologies is critical for decarbonizing flight At Syzygy, we believe collaboration and innovation are the keys to building a sustainable energy future — and aviation is one of the toughest, most important frontiers. 🎧 Listen to the full conversation here: green.simpliflying.com 👉 We’d love to hear from you: What innovation do you think will have the biggest impact on decarbonizing aviation?

Can waste methane from landfills and dairy farms be turned into jet fuel – at prices competitive with Jet A? That’s the bold vision of Syzygy Plasmonics CEO Trevor Best, who joins Shashank Nigam ✈ to talk about NovaSAF, a new biogas-to-SAF pathway. We discuss timelines, trade-offs with ATJ and e-SAF, and what airlines will need to see before signing offtake deals at parity. Episode out this Thursday. 💚

We are incredibly excited to move this project forward with Syzygy Plasmonics. This is what new tech looks like. Smart, quick, efficient. Now that Honeywell has committed to adding its last-step hydrocracker to upgrade Velocys' Fischer-Tropsch crude, the full solution is at hand. We look forward to bringing to the table all the operational experience we gained with more than 6,000 hours of FT crude production at our Envia plant. The path forward is through cooperation and commitment. It's time to lead. Ready for more incumbents to join the movement!
