Delivering the Distributed Grid

About us

Sparkfund is the deployment services company utilities rely on to take DERs from grid edge to grid core. With over a decade of experience as a utility services company, Sparkfund has pioneered a smarter approach to deploying distributed assets as part of a fast-growing grid. Through its Distributed Capacity Procurement (DCP) model, Sparkfund enables utilities to plan, deploy, and dispatch DERs at the scale and pace necessary to meet load growth demand and unlock the full value of the grid. We support program design, assessment of DER grid value, host engagement, and value chain management to ensure on-time, on-budget deployment of distributed resources with maximum grid value and lowest cost. With more than 3,200 projects deployed across 43 states and more than 300MW of energized assets constructed, Sparkfund is transforming buildings into a valuable extension of the grid for the benefit of our society.

  • Climate Week brings many energy conversations focused on national and global action, but we also want to celebrate the state-level policy momentum making distributed capacity part of core grid planning, with more than 100 policy actions in 2024 alone. Regulators are opening the lane for utility-led DER deployment that’s flexible, fast, and cost-aware. Momentum is local, and it’s accelerating.

  • At #ClimateWeekNY? 🌎⚡The Sparkfund team is in New York meeting with regulators, utilities, developers, and C&I leaders to talk real-world ways to add capacity faster with utility-led DERs. If you’re here too, reach out and let’s grab time to connect. And don’t miss our VP of Deployment, Tanuj Deora, at Ever.green's session, “Catalysts for Change: How Corporate Action Is Accelerating Clean Energy in a Challenging Climate,” alongside leaders from SlalomAutodeskHeadwater Energy, and Ever.green at Slalom’s World Trade Center office — tomorrow (9/23) at 8:30 AM. Come say hi and join the conversation!

Napa Valley Project Update – The Sparkfund crew crushed it over the past two weeks! Even while navigating wildfire smoke and a surprise wasp infestation, the team kept things moving. We’ve now installed nearly 550 kW of the total 1.1 MW solar energy system—accelerating the vineyard’s decarbonization by leveraging a fixed-tilt racking systems from OMCO Solar and high-efficiency solar modules supplied by Trinasolar. Sparkfund is proud to work alongside partners committed to scaling clean energy across Napa and building a more resilient future. If you're looking to decarbonize your operations or improve energy performance, let’s talk about how we can help. Coming up: we are literally taking things to the next level, as we climb up to launch the roof-mounted phase of this project. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Decarbonization

What a week at RE+ ⚡️ Sparkfund showed up to trade notes with utilities, developers, and partners about how to build capacity faster and smarter. Pier LaFarge took the stage with Smart Electric Power Alliance's Lakin Garth to talk about scaling DERs into reliable grid resources through the Distributed Capacity Procurement model. We kept conversations going at partner gatherings beyond the expo floor — swapping lessons learned, comparing roadmaps, and lining up collaborations that move DCP from concept to execution. It’s energizing to be in rooms where planning, deployment, and dispatch meet real projects and real timelines. Huge thanks to the hosts and partners we met at RE+, let’s keep it rolling. • If data centers, feeder constraints, and interconnection queues are crowding your calendar, this is your field guide. Sparkfund's white paper breaks down how utility-led DER deployment turns planning into capacity, fast: where to site, how to procure, and how to operate assets as part of the system. It’s practical, regulator-ready, and built from real program experience. 👉Get the resources: https://hubs.la/Q03J6scy0

What's working in corporate renewable procurement? The hard truth: Federal incentives are uncertain. ESG is under scrutiny. Getting #cleanenergy projects built is harder than ever. But some companies are cutting through the noise and making real impact happen. Join corporate sustainability leaders Louis Mark from Autodesk and Meagan Breidert from Slalom, alongside Myles Watson from Headwater Energy and Liz Pearce from Ever.green for an in-depth conversation about what's actually working in renewable procurement right now. Tanuj Deora of Sparkfund (former White House Director of Clean Energy) will moderate a discussion on: ✅ Moving beyond traditional RECs when VPPAs aren't accessible ✅ Building internal buy-in for high-impact procurement strategies ✅ How corporate commitments help get projects financed and built ✅ Real stories from companies navigating this challenging landscape 📅 September 23, 8:30-11am ET | 📍NYC Financial District 💻 Register here: https://lnkd.in/eA8dT2dB

  • Customer-driven DERs have moved the ball downfield. Utility-led deployment adds the missing piece: scale, siting, and system integration. Our blog explains how Distributed Capacity Procurement (DCP) works alongside market adoption. It’s a shift from hobby projects to a grid-grade playbook that delivers speed, equity, and lower costs. Curious how DCP pulls this off? Read here: https://hubs.la/Q03GwGf30
