Good Grocer, a volunteer-operated grocery store and participant in Shipt’s LadderUp accelerator, strives to transform the food system to make fresh, healthy food accessible and affordable for everyone in their Minneapolis, Minnesota community. Located in the heart of one of the city’s largest food deserts, Good Grocer is modeled by their good trifecta: good people, good groceries, and good deeds. Their advice to others considering the LadderUp program: “We would say go for it! It’s inspiring and helpful to learn from similar projects about their successes and challenges. You might find others facing the same issues. Programs like LadderUp offer group discussions and individual mentorships. This allows you to grow with community support and personalized guidance.” In our shared missions, we each aspire to a future where fresh food is accessible regardless of zip code. As #HungerActionMonth kicks off, we’re spotlighting organizations that are driving change in their local communities and expanding fresh food access. Today, we spotlight Appetite For Change, a 2023 Shipt grantee that is doing inspiring work in Minneapolis. Over the past three months, Shipt and Appetite for Change have been partnering to expand AFC’s Community Cooks Meal Boxes program to get food to those who need it most. By December 2025, Shipt will help distribute up to 40,000 meals to residents experiencing food insecurity across North Minneapolis. We know that transportation and mobility can be a huge challenge for those experiencing food insecurity. This innovative program blends Shipt’s core capabilities as a retail technology company and our passion for investing in the communities we serve. Learn more about this inspiring program, and the shoppers and drivers who make it possible, in our newsroom. https://lnkd.in/gqGM_cKK

47 million people live in communities with low access to food — that’s why Shipt’s Community Impact and Innovation Grant is aimed at investing in community-led partners and programs who are working to create accessible food systems. 🥬 This year, we’ve awarded 23 grants to teaching farms and mobile markets across the country that are looking to launch, grow and scale their fresh food organizations. 🌾 There’s no single solution to solving hunger — and every community is different — which is why this grant supports organizations in various stages of their journey through our new tiered structure. After visiting one such organization, the Boston Medical Center, Shipt’s Senior Manager of Government Affairs, Matthew Spring, said: “I was in awe when I got to the Rooftop Farm! I didn’t know it was possible to grow such a variety of crops in this environment, all which serve a range of patient nutritional needs and cultural preferences.” This is what it means to live out our goal of helping ensure fresh, nutritious food is accessible, regardless of zip code. And we achieve that by investing in those already doing the work in their local communities. Big news! Shipt is launching the first portable benefits program in Alabama, offering thousands of shoppers with Shipt access to additional benefits — without compromising on flexibility! Through this program — launched in partnership with portable benefits platform, Stride — app-based companies like Shipt can contribute funds to a worker’s account that can be used toward benefits such as health, dental, vision insurance and even nontraditional benefits like retirement savings or tuition reimbursement. And because of recent legislation passed by the state, Alabama shoppers can receive benefit contributions while maintaining their status as independent contractors. Shipt takes pride in exploring opportunities and finding innovative ways to offer shoppers greater access, choice and security in how they work, all while preserving their flexibility and independence.     Visit our Newsroom to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gREwiQFR

On Wednesday, the Congressional Hunger Center honored leaders from government, philanthropy, the private sector, and the wider anti-hunger community at the Hunger Leadership Awards in Washington, D.C.—recognizing their vision and commitment to achieving zero hunger in the U.S. and around the world. The theme of the night was “Everyone Deserves Good Food”—a theme that hit home for Shipt. The idea that everyone, regardless of zip code, should have access to fresh, nutritious food is central to our core values. The event was a reminder that it takes all of us—in the public and private sectors—working together to end hunger; no one group or organization can do it alone. Shipt is proud to play a part in driving change in communities across America and was honored to join so many inspiring food security advocates in our nation’s capital.
