  • September is National Recovery Month Learn More: https://conta.cc/4md1JiE This long-standing, national observance promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for substance use and mental disorders. The goal is to educate Americans that addiction treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life. National Recovery Month spreads the positive message that: - Behavioral health is essential to overall health - Prevention works - Treatment is effective - People can and do recover National Recovery Month reminds people in recovery, and those who support them, that no one is alone in the journey through recovery. Everyone’s journey is different, but we are all in this together. This month – and every month – let’s work together to move lives forward, connect people to care, and change how substance use challenges are viewed and treated.  www.MovingLivesForward.org #sfvcmhc Join us on October 23rd, from 6-8 p.m., for our 55th Anniversary Gala Honoring Wil Wheaton! https://lnkd.in/gFWR7DcF The Center is Hiring! https://lnkd.in/gF2HdJMu Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gvRQTCEY

  • September is Cultural Diversity Month Learn More: https://conta.cc/46rEf4t Society is best served when it can contain infinite diversity in infinite combinations. - Leonard Nimoy At the Center, cultural understanding plays a crucial role in the way we interact with our clients and volunteers. It not only helps us connect better with them, but it helps them connect better with us and creates a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. According to LA County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS), Los Angeles is home to more than 10 million residents, with 140 cultures, and as many as 224 languages. We’re proud to say that more than half of our staff speak a second language, including Armenian, Farsi, Russian, Spanish, and Tagalog. The Center remains committed to equality for all and to taking specific and meaningful steps to do our part to increase diversity, equity and inclusion, allowing everyone in our community to thrive. www.MovingLivesForward.org #sfvcmhc The Center is Hiring! https://lnkd.in/gF2HdJMu Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gvRQTCEY Join us on October 23rd, from 6-8 p.m., for our 55th Anniversary Gala Honoring Wil Wheaton! https://lnkd.in/gFWR7DcF

  • August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day Read More: https://conta.cc/4mceydq August 31st marks International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) to raise awareness of substance use disorder. Prevention and recovery are possible when we combat stigmatization, promote treatment, celebrate recovery, and strengthen our collective efforts to prevent overdose deaths. The substance use crisis in America has had a devastating impact on communities, families, and individuals. It is essential that our communities have the resources and support needed to prevent the fatal consequences of substance misuse and provide access to evidence-based prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services. The Center offers substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services and can give those affected by addiction the best chance of finding long-term recovery and hope for the future. www.MovingLivesForward.org #sfvcmhc The Center is Hiring! https://lnkd.in/gF2HdJMu Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gvRQTCEY Join us on October 23rd, from 6-8 p.m., for our 55th Anniversary Gala Honoring Wil Wheaton! https://lnkd.in/gFWR7DcF

  • August is National Wellness Month Read More: https://conta.cc/45j4Eji Wellness and self-care are not matters of selfishness or ego. Taking care of our own needs, on a consistent basis, leads to better mental health, greater productivity, and richer relationships with family, friends and professional colleagues. We are living through challenging and stressful times. While this stress may feel overwhelming, there are things we can do to calm our bodies and brains. - We can pay attention to how stress affects us to help us identify it early, decide if it is helping us, and work to manage it. - We can be kind to ourselves. - We can make time to do at least one thing that bring us joy every day. - We can reach out to get support and learn more about managing stress. We all have inner strengths and resilience that can help us deal with challenges and stress. www.MovingLivesForward.org #sfvcmhc The Center is Hiring! https://lnkd.in/gF2HdJMu Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gvRQTCEY

  • July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month Read More: https://conta.cc/44ZODP5 Fear of judgment, cultural beliefs, generational differences, and lack of access to resources, often prevent people of color from addressing struggles openly and seeking the help they need. To overcome these barriers, it is essential to foster open and honest conversation about mental health. When people who live with a mental health condition share their stories, it can help others feel less alone and reduce shame. At San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., we are committed to making our services, as well as our hiring practices, accessible to all persons served in the community, including persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, cultures, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, and languages. Maintaining a diverse staff that reflects our community is essential to providing culturally competent support to our clients. Understanding cultural differences leads to better outcomes. Without that, stigma may not be addressed, misdiagnoses can occur, and language differences can become obstacles to care. If you know someone in need of services, please visit our website. www.MovingLivesForward.org #sfvcmhc The Center is Hiring! https://lnkd.in/gF2HdJMu Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gvRQTCEY

  • June is PRIDE MONTH Read More: https://conta.cc/44fOAOY Pride Month is a recognition of the identity, dignity, equality, acceptance and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community. The LGBTQ+ community, especially younger members, faces societal stigma, discrimination, harassment, family rejection, hate crimes, and denial of their civil and human rights. Inequity harms mental health and LGBTQ+ individuals experience mental health struggles at higher rates than others - especially depression and anxiety disorders. They are also at particular risk for experiencing verbal, mental and physical abuse. This results in higher rates of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, and suicide. Read More to learn what you can do to support the mental health of LGBTQ+ loved ones. LGBTQ+ rights are human rights. We see you, we support you, and we are inspired by your courage to accept nothing less than full equality. www.MovingLivesForward.org #sfvcmhc The Center is Hiring! https://lnkd.in/gF2HdJMu Subscribe to our Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gvRQTCEY
