We give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm in the US & around the world
About us
Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Recognized for our commitment to accountability, innovation and collaboration, our work takes us into the heart of communities, where we help children and families help themselves. We work with other organizations, governments, non-profits and a variety of local partners while maintaining our own independence without political agenda or religious orientation. When disaster strikes around the world, Save the Children is there to save lives with food, medical care and education and remains to help communities rebuild through long-term recovery programs. As quickly and as effectively as Save the Children responds to tsunamis and civil conflict, it works to resolve the ongoing struggles children face every day — poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease — and replaces them with hope for the future.

💫 October is Head Start Awareness Month —and what better time to celebrate the early learning program that gives more than 750,000 kids across the U.S. the strong start in life they deserve? Did you know that for 60 years, Head Start has provided: 📖 Quality early education 🍎 Nutritious meals 🫶 Emotional support 👥 Job training to parents 🤝 Community resources that help families thrive This program is a lifeline and a launchpad, yet in many rural communities, access is still out of reach. And in times of uncertainty, when vital services face disruption, protecting Head Start becomes even more critical. Throughout the month, we’ll be shining a light on why protecting it matters, now more than ever. At the end of the day, early learning isn’t a luxury —it’s a right worth fighting for. Find out why Head Start matters and how you can help protect it 🔍https://lnkd.in/gZhEbEtz

This week, Save the Children was proud to join the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. Our team participated in high-level discussions and side events to advocate for kids and connected with partners who share our vision of a world where every child survives and thrives. Here are some highlights from #UNGA80: 🎬Premiering our short documentary 'Childhood in Ukraine'— our President & CEO Janti Soeripto and Trustee, renowned broadcast journalist Cynthia McFadden, were joined by Ievgen Renov, Save the Children’s education coordinator in Ukraine, to discuss humanitarian work in conflict zones and the power of storytelling to elevate the voices of children and families living in crisis. 💡Engaging in dynamic conversations —from speaking at Clinton Global Initiative's Annual Meeting, a fireside chat hosted by Devex, a roundtable at the Harvard Club of New York City moderated by Raj Kumar and a panel at Goals House, to attending Concordia's Annual Summit, Social Innovation Summit, #GoalKeepers2030 and beyond. We discussed the future of the humanitarian sector and the importance of cross-sector collaboration to meet today’s challenges and foster collective impact. 🤝Connecting with valued partners —including Accenture, Colgate-Palmolive and Gates Foundation, to name a few. We deepened relationships between the private and nonprofit sectors to leverage our unique strengths in creating lasting change for children in the U.S. and around the world. It was also meaningful to come together with our overseas colleagues and leaders from Save the Children International, Save the Children UK, and Rädda Barnen - Save the Children Sweden 💫 We share a global mission and a deep commitment to children. As international leaders convene in this forum, we’re reminded of the tremendous effort and collaboration needed to support those who need us the most—in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Afghanistan and everywhere conflict and extreme weather events are turning daily life into an ongoing emergency response. 📢 We continue to call for bold reforms that put children first, shifting power and resources to local actors and communities to drive progress based on their needs and priorities.

Kids are hit hardest by hunger, conflict and lack of education, but too often, they’re left out of the decisions that shape their future. At #UNGA80, leaders can choose to put children at the center of global action. The decisions made today will shape their tomorrow —and ultimately, our own. Together, we must demand leaders to keep kids first and protect the rights of children worldwide.

Big things happen when advocates come together! ✨ Last week, volunteer leaders from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. for our Volunteer Leader Summit. They joined trainings and workshops to sharpen their skills as powerful voices for kids. They put those skills into action by heading to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and call for greater investments in early education programs like Head Start. This summit was more than just meetings—it was about building a movement. Every story told, every office visited, every voice raised brought us closer to ensuring ALL kids have the strong start they deserve❤️ Even if you couldn’t be in D.C., YOU can be a part of this movement. Together, we can—and will—make change for children. Learn more about our advocacy work 🙌 https://lnkd.in/dcSJm8eH

The inhumanity of the situation in Gaza is unconscionable. Not only is it an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, but for the first time, the UN Commission of Inquiry has concluded that genocide is being committed in Gaza. History will undoubtedly judge this moment as a test of humanity —and we are failing. Failing the people of Gaza, failing the hostages, and failing our own collective moral imperative. Save the Children’s call to leaders: Don’t wait for more declarations. Don’t wait for more destruction. Don’t wait for more deaths. Do what’s right. Act now. Almost 100 years after her death, Save the Children’s founder Eglantyne Jebb is honored in The New York Times Overlooked obituary series—a tribute to a visionary who sparked a global movement for children. 📜 It all began in post-World War I London, when Eglantyne distributed leaflets of a starving baby to raise awareness. She believed kids deserved rights and protection and made this her life’s mission. From being arrested for her activism to drafting the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which later evolved into the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, she founded the world’s first and leading independent children’s rights organization. A century later, we’ve reached over 1 billion kids across 100+ countries —and her legacy continues to shape brighter futures for children around the globe 🌍🌟 Learn more about her remarkable journey as recounted by Elaine Louie 📰https://lnkd.in/gkvTYpfh
