  • Check out NextView Partner Rob Go's continuation of his series on the existential crisis facing seed VC ⬇️ Rob explores the core question of investing in today's market: whether to chase overlooked early bets or fight for scarce super-compounders—and how what's in fashion keeps swinging between the two.

More Thoughts on The Existential Crisis in Seed — One Question, Two World Views There’s one core question that defines every investment strategy: What is the most profitable inefficiency to target? In venture, there are two main answers — and they lead to radically different worldviews: 🌱 Classic Venture This is the traditional belief that early-stage investing is where markets are most inefficient. You invest pre-traction, back unproven teams, and win by being early and right. 🚀 Super-Compounders This view is that the biggest inefficiency is in underestimating just how big the biggest companies can get. It’s all about access to the one company that defines the era. Three thoughts related to this: First, we are clearly in a moment where the super-compounder strategy is ascendant — driven by macro factors, industry shifts, and where we are in the AI revolution. This explains many of the factors that are causing concern for seed investors today, most of whom follow a classic venture playbook. Second, the laws of competition should drive rotation between the two strategies due to supply and demand. When too many investors chase the same profile, the inefficiencies disappear. Prices get irrational for anything that looks like a super-compounder. The flood of dollars will spoil otherwise good assets. A broader set of great early-stage opportunities get overlooked. The classic venture substrate becomes fertile again. We may not be here yet, but the market rotation should occur. Third, the biggest danger isn’t picking the wrong strategy. It’s not even knowing which game you are playing. These strategies require different skills, networks, portfolio construction and instincts. Oscillating between them is a great way to miss both. By the time one is clearly winning, it’s too late to refactor and try to play that game. And the entire market is becoming more efficient. The bar has risen, and if there is any inefficiency, it will be addressed much faster than before. Irrespective of your world view, you need to elevate your game to survive. I wrote a longer piece exploring these dynamics, what’s driving the current shift, and what it means for founders and fund managers. Check it out in the first comment below. If you're navigating the seed landscape right now — or wondering how to adapt — I’d love your perspective. It's a jungle out there.

  • In case you missed it! NextView Partner Melody Koh has expanded her role to Partner & Chief Product Officer, leading NextView's AI and data initiatives 🚀 As Melody puts it: "The potential to transform NextView through this work feels greater than my individual ability to impact the firm through investing alone." We're excited to see how AI and data will supercharge every aspect of early-stage investing - from sourcing to portfolio support and beyond 🎯 The future of venture is being built now, and we're investing in the infrastructure to stay ahead 📈 More from Melody below ⬇️

    Partner at NextView Ventures

After six years as a Partner at NextView Ventures, I'm expanding my role to lead our firm's AI and data initiatives as Partner & Chief Product Officer. This came about as our partnership reached a tipping point: we believe the next few years will fundamentally reshape how early-stage investors operate, and the window to build competitive advantages is now. Here's what's driving this change: we've spent the past few years building data-driven sourcing infrastructure, evolving from a nascent v1 to a functional system. Most importantly, we now see a clear path to 10X greater impact with further investment. I raised my hand for this role without hesitation. Honestly, the potential to transform NextView through this work feels greater than my individual ability to impact the firm through investing alone. Plus—and this is the part I'm most excited about—I've been longing for more time to go deep on the latest AI tools. I've spent countless hours recently with Claude Code building apps with my kids (e.g. an app that showcases LEGO creations 🧱). There's something energizing about returning to building after years focused primarily on investing. My focus will be on harnessing AI and data to supercharge every aspect of what we do—from sourcing and evaluation to portfolio support. The goal isn't to replace human judgment, but to smartly augment what experienced investors do best. I remain one of five partners at NextView and will continue supporting existing founders while making select new investments. But most of my energy will be devoted to finding multiplier effects that can transform how we operate as a firm. Full details on why now, why me, and what we're building: https://lnkd.in/eFeK3Vuy What opportunities do you see for AI & data to transform early-stage investing? Would loves to trade notes 👨💻

  • "My co-founder and I were thinking of this as a 10-year journey that we are going all in on. When you think about it through that lens, it's really about ‘who do we trust?' and ‘who are the people that we want to share in that journey with?’" - Skyler Erickson, Co-founder of Gondola AI 🤝 We're honored that the Gondola founders chose NextView as their partner when they began bringing their vision of AI for frequent travelers to life 🛎️ As NextView Partner Stephanie Palmeri puts it, the best founder-investor relationships are built on trust, shared vision, and true thought partnership from day zero and for the long haul 📈🚀 If you're an early-stage founder looking for a true thought partner for the journey, we'd love to learn about what you're building! ✨ To watch the full interview and learn more about Gondola, see links in the comments below ⬇️ #StartupStories #ConsumerAI #SeedStage
