About us

Mayo Clinic has expanded and changed in many ways, but our values remain true to the vision of our founders. Our primary value – The needs of the patient come first – guides our plans and decisions as we create the future of health care. Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career. Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world. We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.

  • Joints are so much more than just bone meeting bone. They’re also comprised of the support structures around them: the cartilage, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and even fluid in between. And as we age, wear and tear, stiffness, and pain might prevent those joints from working as they used to. On this episode of Aging Forward, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Pamela Mehta talks about shoulders, knees, and toes. She breaks down the effect of diet on our joints, explains why joint replacement surgery is not always the right choice, and gives the verdict on barefoot shoes. https://mayocl.in/4nMaIbC

  • Waking up with numbness, tingling or pain in your hands and wrists? It could be carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition affects 1% to 5% of U.S. adults and is linked to repetitive motion, arthritis, obesity and other risk factors. Symptoms can range from stiffness and burning pain to hand weakness that makes daily tasks difficult. Early treatment — including rest, splints and other nonsurgical options — can help relieve symptoms, while severe cases may require surgery. The study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, found the tools can detect those risks as early as age 3. The work is part of Mayo Clinic's precure strategic priority, which aims to predict and prevent serious diseases before they advance. Learn more: https://mayocl.in/46EL5CV
