👉 Our friends at NowMattersNow.org and other Suicide Prevention experts have signed an open letter on AI safety in light of a lack of guardrails for individuals seeking help from AI in a time of crisis. “Chatbots can feel like real relationships, especially over time. They’re designed to keep us engaged (more time means more free data) and they do this by being validating and agreeable. Chatbots are known for psychophancy: sounding smart, supportive, or therapeutic without the substance or accountability that real psychology requires. It’s style over safety. That can create deeply strange and dangerous situations in which chatbots collaborate in planning for suicide. At a minimum, Chatbots should never advise on methods for lethal injury…They must block that path, every time.” — Ursula Whiteside Lyssn is committed to ensuring that ethical AI, third-party validation, and strong guardrails are—and will always remain—core principles across our products, services, and partnerships. Although we are grateful for progress already underway on this issue, a continued effort to collaborate between evidence-based experts and LLM developers is essential to ensure a safer future. https://lnkd.in/gnJyJmM3
