  • We’re proud to announce that Jonathan Rose Companies has acquired San Juan Del Centro Apartments, a 150-unit affordable housing community in Boulder, Colorado, for $56M. This marks our first property in Boulder and the seventh acquisition for the Rose Affordable Housing Preservation Fund VI. San Juan Del Centro, originally built in 1971, serves families earning at or below 60% of Area Median Income (AMI) through Project-Based Section 8 and LIHTC programs. As part of this acquisition, we’ll extend affordability protections for 20 more years, while implementing comprehensive renovations, energy efficiency upgrades, and enhanced resident services, including new full-time coordinators on-site. Situated in Boulder’s Glenwood Grove–North Iris neighborhood, the community offers easy access to shops, transit, parks, and onsite amenities for residents to enjoy. This acquisition reflects Jonathan Rose Companies’ long-standing mission: to create a more environmentally thriving, socially just world through the development, preservation, renovation and ownership of green, affordable and mixed income housing.     We’d like to thank Max Jawer and Bridget Maguire on our acquisitions team as well as Lauren Zullo, Evan Finley and Joshua Lomot; the Goulston & Storrs, Hessel Aluise & O'Leary, P.C. and Holland & Hart LLP teams: Deborah Horwitz, Patrick Gallagher, Denise Oliveira, Nicole Kadomiya and Melinda Pasquini; the team at the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority: Erik Robinson; the Denver HUD Office; and the Berkadia team: Jeff Irish, Jordan Skyles; and Tim Leonhard. #AffordableHousing #CommunityImpact #JonathanRoseCompanies #SocialImpact #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainableCommunities Photo Credit: Berkadia

  • Recently, Jonathan F.P. Rose, President of Jonathan Rose Companies, joined Keith Zakheim, CEO of Antenna Group and host of the #AgeofAdoption podcast, to discuss the urgent intersections of climate action, social equity, and the built environment. They explored the challenges of affordable housing in the U.S. and the evolving opportunities in green building design. In the conversation, Jonathan shares why market forces alone cannot fix the affordable housing shortage, how integrating housing with social, health, and education programs creates stronger communities, and how the maturing green building ecosystem — from Passive House to mass timber and biologically based materials — is making sustainable development more scalable. It was a candid conversation on the systemic challenges we face — from housing affordability to renewable energy adoption — and the role real estate can play in shaping resilient, socially conscious communities. • We’re pleased to share that through Rose Affordable Housing Preservation Fund VI, we’ve acquired Plumley Village in Worcester, Massachusetts, a 430-unit #affordablehousing community, in partnership with The Schochet Companies. This marks our sixth acquisition for the fund and grows our Massachusetts portfolio to over 1,000 units. “The rehabilitation of this property will help address critical structural improvements while expanding residents’ access to programs that strengthen community health, education, and overall well-being,” said Brandon Kearse, Co-Chief Investment Officer at Jonathan Rose Companies. “Partnering with The Schochet Companies, we are committed to strengthening Plumley Village as a vibrant, affordable housing community and deepening our presence in the Massachusetts market.” Originally built in 1970 and rehabbed in 2005, Plumley Village offers playgrounds, basketball courts, a community garden, and the Boys & Girls Club on-site. Preserving and enhancing communities like Plumley Village is more important than ever, pairing long-term affordability with #sustainability upgrades and on-site programs that help residents thrive. #SocialImpact #EnvironmentalImpact #CommunityDevelopment #JonathanRoseCompanies Photo Credit: 3 Eagles Aerial Photography Allie Kronthal, Max Jawer

  • Last week during #ClimateWeekNYC, we gathered 45 leaders from across the decarbonization ecosystem for a breakfast roundtable on accelerating scalable climate action in the built environment. Real estate owners, lenders, investors, solution providers, and nonprofit partners joined a candid discussion on what’s working, where barriers remain, and how to move faster.    In just one hour, we covered ground from integrating climate considerations from day one, to empowering asset management with economic incentives, to responding to new building performance standards with urgency. Participants emphasized how quick-win projects can demonstrate ROI and build momentum, and how investors are increasingly treating decarbonization as both a risk and value driver. We’re so grateful to all of the participants who brought their insights to the table.   Additionally, as part of Antenna Group’s #AntennaHouse Climate Week programming, Jonathan F.P. Rose, President of Jonathan Rose Companies, shared a keynote on how cities can better balance climate action with community needs, while Lauren Zullo, Managing Director of Impact, joined a panel discussion on how capital can drive decarbonization and resilience across the built environment.    Climate Week reminds us that progress happens when diverse perspectives come together.  Let’s keep the conversation going and the work moving forward! • Jonathan Rose Companies joins global leaders in a call for the first-ever Early Childhood Finance Summit.   Plans for the first-ever International Finance Summit for Early Childhood were unveiled yesterday at a UN event hosted by UNICEF, Theirworld and partners from the #ActforEarlyYears campaign. The event also launched Act for Early Years’ #Minifesto and outlined four “Smart Buys for Early Childhood Development” – proven methodologies that have demonstrated extraordinary returns from strategic early childhood investments: Early Health and Nutrition Programs, Early Stimulation Programs, Quality Childcare and Preschool Services, and Family Friendly Policies.   The early years of a child’s life represent a critical, once-in-a-lifetime window, when 90% of brain development occurs and the foundations for future learning and behavior are set.   Safe, green, stable, affordable housing plays a vital role in this stage, providing children with the secure environment they need to grow, learn, and thrive. That’s why Jonathan Rose Companies is proud to join the call for greater investment in early childhood and is committed to creating communities that give children the strongest possible start in life. • Jonathan F.P. Rose, President of Jonathan Rose Companies and co-founder of the Garrison Institute, this week launched a new podcast series: The Garrison Institute Presents: The Common Good. Now one of Apple’s featured new podcasts of the week, this is the beginning of a series of conversations designed to reimagine our shared future through wisdom, systems thinking, and collective action. This week’s premiere episode features renowned environmental entrepreneur and bestselling author Paul Hawken, who reframes carbon not as a villain, but as the essential element that connects life, ecosystems, and human consciousness.  In their conversation, Jonathan and Paul explore the cosmic origins of carbon, what indigenous knowledge and modern science reveal about living within interconnected systems, and how the intelligence of plants, mycelial networks, and animal communication can expand our understanding of consciousness. The episode ultimately points to regeneration — grounded in both love and grief for the world—as the only path forward.
