This week, the UK’s long-awaited Cyber Security and Resilience Bill had its Second Reading as it makes its way through Parliament. During the debate, Dame Chi Onwurah MP, Chair of the Technology Committee, argued that not enough businesses take cybersecurity seriously, especially at board level. She referenced ISACA’s research - which finds that only 56% of IT professionals think their board prioritises cybersecurity - and put forward our recommendations on how the Bill must go further to ensure that the wider UK economy is properly protected from cyber threats. We welcome that the Bill will expand the scope of UK regulations to include digital service providers, such as cloud platforms and data centers. But in its current form, many major private sector employers will remain outside of meaningful cyber legislation. Every large organization runs on digital infrastructure. Without the right defenses, they are all vulnerable to cyberattacks which can disrupt daily life. Our key recommendations for the UK government include: 📈 A statutory duty to report on the uptake of the voluntary Cyber Governance Code of Practice for businesses who are out of scope of the Bill. ✅ Mandated compliance with the Code should the uptake be low or if risks increase for these businesses. 🔎 Powers for regulators to mandate periodic external cyber resilience assessments across all regulated sectors, not just finance, to address a critical policy gap. ❗️A requirement for regulated organizations to name accountable individuals who meet defined competency and skills standards - like in other safety-critical sectors, such as civil aviation and nuclear. #ISACA #cyberresilience

‼️ Good Read Alert! Check out Jason Lau, CISO's 2026 Cybersecurity and AI Predictions.
It’s that time of the year again, and happy to share some thoughts for 2026. Cybersecurity Ventures projects global cybercrime damages will reach $12 trillion annually by 2031, up from $10.5 trillion in 2025. In 2026, the curve is not flattening; it is accelerating, driven by automation, scale, and AI-enabled attack efficiency. In previous years, my annual newsletter leaned more toward cybersecurity predictions—what might be coming next. This time it feels different. It's less a forecast and more a warning: a call to prepare for the consequences in 2026 of the technical debt accumulated in 2025, and also to be cautious of emerging new trends impacting all industries. Hope you enjoy the read and best wishes for the new year!
