About us

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to 27 million Texas customers - representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load. As the independent system operator (ISO) for the region, ERCOT schedules power on an electric grid that connects more than 54,100 miles of transmission lines and 1,250+ generation units, including Private Use Networks. ERCOT also performs financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administers retail switching for 8 million premises in competitive choice areas. ERCOT is a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, governed by a board of directors and subject to oversight by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature. ERCOT's members include consumers, cooperatives, generators, power marketers, retail electric providers, investor-owned electric utilities (transmission and distribution providers), and municipal-owned electric utilities.

Members of ERCOT’s Weatherization and Inspection team visited Lower Colorado River Authority’s (LCRA) new Timmerman Power Plant Unit 1 to perform a weatherization inspection and ensure all preparatory activities were completed. Staff members from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and LCRA were also in attendance. ERCOT works with Market Participants in advance of winter and summer seasons with weatherization inspections and preparedness workshops—just one way ERCOT, its Market Participants, the PUCT, and Texas Legislature are working to strengthen the resiliency and reliability of the grid.

ERCOT released its Monthly Outlook for Resource Adequacy (MORA) report for November 2025. There is a slight possibility of ERCOT issuing an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) during the November peak load days. The risk is highest during the early evening hours, although there is some risk during the sunrise hours due to the possibility of unseasonably cooler temperatures. Under normal conditions, ERCOT anticipates there will be sufficient generation to meet customer demand. https://bit.ly/45PJ8UV
