You have to love the title Creating a Linux “Yogurt-phone” — with netkit and a grain of eBPF because it turns kernel tinkering into a science fair project. Instead of two yogurt cups tied with a string, we have network namespaces and netkit interfaces, with eBPF acting as the string. It walks through building a "string" between two namespaces using only netkit pairs and a minimal eBPF program. Along the way, Jean-Tiare Le Bigot reverse engineers kernel behavior and give us a peak into kernel code. It also reminds me what makes the eBPF ecosystem fun. You can prototype something and end up uncovering details of kernel internals and the next generation of container networking. https://lnkd.in/dU4E226J

Join Liz Rice and Dylan Reimerink for the next eCHO Livestream on 3 October for a look at the clang-free runtime config for Cilium and eBPF. Liz and Dylan will highlight the 'clang-free' Cilium Epic to remove hashtag # ifdefs from the code and replace them with runtime configuration mechanism that doesn't require reconfiguration. This is an important step towards shipping a distro-less container image. They will dive into the benefits, including a more natural developer experience, avoiding high CPU consumption from datapath recompilations, and more! eBPF & Cilium Office Hours Friday, 3 October - 9am ET / 3pm CET Livestream: https://lnkd.in/ey6r2iYa Hear more from Liz: https://lnkd.in/es4ez5dW #eBPF #cloudnative #cilium #eCHO

What if your pub/sub broker could handle more messages with less latency—just by using #eBPF? 🐝 In the latest eBPFChirp, we look at how eBPF accelerates pub/sub by handling parts of the messaging path in the kernel. Loads of fun chatting with Eden Naftali and Amitai Cohen on the Crying Out Cloud podcast! We covered a lot of ground in half an hour: "cloud confessions" about everything from my favourite bike ride, through AI in creative arts, to live coding, to the covers for my O'Reilly books... and discussing #eBPF, the #CNCF, and much more!
🚨 The kernel-level security revolution you can't ignore, a must-listen with Liz Rice! Eden Naftali and Amitai Cohen sit down with Liz Rice, Chief Open Source Officer at Isovalent (Cisco), and a global expert in eBPF, containers, and Kubernetes security. In this episode: • How eBPF is reshaping cloud security from the ground up • Practical strategies to tackle open source supply chain attacks (a hot topic given today’s events) A must-listen for anyone building or securing cloud infrastructure in an era of AI coding and supply chain attacks. 🎙️ Listen now to our NEW Crying Out Cloud episode: 🍏 https://lnkd.in/eBD8VChH 🎧 https://lnkd.in/eP2YsxwG 📺 https://lnkd.in/egKT2Eka

Containers are here to stay, VMs are here to stay, making them play nicely together is also going to be here to stay. With many companies currently looking to replatform their VMs, now is a crucial time to figure out this interoperability story and networking will be the key component tying it all together. Nutanix is one of the companies enabling this transition and they chose Cilium because “We want customers to have control between deploying on VMs or Kubernetes and be able to seamlessly cross that boundary. Cilium makes it easy for users to see traffic flows and define network policies between VMs and Kubernetes clusters running in the same environment.” Cilium is not just running cutting edge AI workloads, it is also driving the modernization applications that have been around since before I was born. I've got to pump up my bike tires before my next race so let’s 🐝 -gin.

👏 Congratulations to Associate Professor Ryan (Peng) Huang and his team in CSE for securing a 2025 research grant from the eBPF Foundation to advance safer and more flexible Linux kernel programming. His project — Verifier-Cooperative Instrumentation — introduces EPASS, a framework that blends static verification with runtime checks to reduce false rejections of safe eBPF programs while preserving strong safety guarantees. This work is a powerful example of principled systems research with real-world impact. By making kernel-level programmability safer and more expressive, EPASS could unlock new innovations in networking, security, and performance. 🔒⚡💻 👉 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/grjQWiV2 #Linux #eBPF #SystemsResearch #KernelProgramming
