As a call center coach, he began pursuing a degree in cybersecurity and soon applied to the Chatham Tech Hub apprenticeship program, which helps employees with no tech background build real careers in software engineering.   • Sometimes, the biggest impact starts with a small shift—like bringing a class closer to home. Jenny used to spend $25 on ride share trips to attend a citizenship prep course. But when our Whitehall Customer Care Center partnered with the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the class moved into her neighborhood — making it possible for her to walk.   • For team leader, Shawn Whitfield, the #BudBilliken Parade is more than a tradition. It’s a celebration of heritage, education and empowerment for people in Chicago’s South Side. From marching in the parade as a child to covering it as a youth reporter for the Chicago Defender, Shawn’s journey came full circle this year when she walked the parade route with her Discover colleagues.   • “I can add value to the company, and in return, the company is adding to me.” Maureen Osborne’s journey at Discover started at the Chatham Customer Care Center, where she learned about the Chatham Tech Hub apprenticeship program that provides agents with training opportunities to build technology careers. With no prior tech background, Maureen embraced the opportunity to grow and worked hard to earn various certifications. Now, she’s a senior automation engineer and one of two dozen employees to participate in the program.   • For the second consecutive year, Discover hosted a career day for summer tech interns from Discover Partners Institute (DPI) at our 606 office. Discover Technology associates shared their expertise through a financial literacy workshop on managing finances, building and maintaining credit, developing healthy spending habits, and setting long-term financial goals. A career panel also took place where Discover Technology associates discussed their own experiences growing their professional network, how to stand out during the interview process, the importance of building confidence in the workplace, and how to effectively leverage resources to advance their careers.   • When our Whitehall Customer Care Center opened, we learned many residents were traveling long distances for citizenship prep classes. Working with the Columbus Metropolitan Library, we brought this educational resource directly to the neighborhood.
