While everyone understands the need for effective governance within Domo, it's not always possible to find an internal system for managing it. Some administrators are left alone, managing various internal products other than Domo, or balancing data utilization within Domo with governance management for internal deployments with limited resources. Consumption governance management is diverse, and early detection and resolution of unnecessary credits is essential. Patrolling the instance could be called the Domo police. That's where Domo Police AI comes in. Domo Police AI is an AI agent that automatically monitors and manages credit consumption within a Domo instance. It detects and alerts on abnormal consumption, optimizes data flow, and creates reports. This frees administrators from manual work and automates cost visualization, cost reduction, and early problem resolution. It also reduces the mental burden of communication between administrators and users, promoting efficient data utilization. Rather than simply requesting deletion, it provides users with hints on how to improve data literacy. …Although this is still just a fantasy to me, I believe it is a story that can already be realized with Domo. In the continuation of my #DataTeapot analogy, I’ve been thinking about data governance through a very practical lens—like a steamy teapot on a kitchen stove. Imagine you’ve brewed that perfect cup of tea, but you’ve got curious little hands reaching in. You need a way to let everyone enjoy the tea without anyone getting burned, right? That’s what Governance at Scale looks like in the BI world—especially when you’re orchestrating dataset permissions, row-based security, and group ownership. Dataset Permissions are like setting up a guard rail around the teapot—only those who need to pour get close enough to serve. Row-Based Security is the cozy warm serving versus the scalding steam—each person only gets to see the data they’re supposed to touch. Group Ownership? That’s assigning designated trusted hands to hold the pot, so it stays steady even when the kitchen gets busy. While working in #Domo, these governance principles become a lot easier to put into practice. I can share datasets directly with the right users or groups, and instead of juggling permissions on hundreds (or thousands!) of objects, I can simply manage Groups—adding or removing users as access needs change. And with Personalized Data Permissions, I don’t need to spin up countless dataset variations just to control visibility. Users only see the rows they’re supposed to, all from a single dataset. That means less duplication, less maintenance, and more confidence that the “teapot” of data is safely managed and consistently poured. I’ve used #DataTeapot metaphors before—thinking of data architecture as how we design, isolate, and safely share access to valuable insights. This time, it’s all about keeping things safe at scale, so no one “gets burned” by sensitive or irrelevant data, even as teams, dashboards, and data sources multiply. Governance doesn’t have to restrict—it can empower. With smart dataset permissions, precise row-level controls, and shared group ownership, you build a system where people can pour their own insights—securely and smoothly.
