Reimagining Student Success. Know how every student is doing and why. In real-time. COPPA, FERPA, and SOC2 compliant.

About us

We're reimagining how learning happens when every student has their own classroom-connected AI mentor from kindergarten to career. Today that means we're building GPT-powered activities that make it easy for teachers to bring safe, managed AI experiences into the classroom. Learning about the Civil War? Let every student interview Abraham Lincoln about the Gettysburg Address. Want to know how every student is doing? Run a quick Pulse Check and find out in seconds. Writing essays? Give every student their own writing coach. Every teacher gets a live dashboard of how their students are doing and feeling so they can orchestrate a classroom and school experience that works for every student. SchoolAI is integrated with the curriculum & tools teachers and schools are already using, and brings school goals, teaching style, and parents' aspirations for their kids to truly personalize every student interaction – all in service of better learning for every kid. Founded in early 2023, we're proudly building in Utah, and serving hundreds of thousands of students worldwide.

  • The worst students make the best teachers. At least, that's what I've always been told. And what I tell myself when I think back to all those report cards that said "Katie would be excelling if she just applied herself" or "Katie is so bright, she just needs to talk less and focus more." I was capable. But I wasn't engaged. And that shaped everything about my career. Despite having amazing teachers, school never felt like "my thing." I struggled to focus in elementary school. By middle and high school, I couldn't connect the dots between schoolwork and the real world. Everything changed when a family friend, an elementary teacher, became my tutor and mentor. She was the first person who truly took the time to understand what I needed and how to support me. I still keep a card she wrote about how proud she was, how smart I was, and all the endless possibilities ahead for me. By the end of elementary school, I decided I was going to be a teacher. In 2011, I began teaching at a public school in my hometown. One of my greatest joys was reaching students who didn't always see themselves reflected in the classroom, and showing them that school could be fun, meaningful, and theirs. Over nine years, across three grade levels and two states, I dedicated myself to one goal: making sure students could say "WOW! School was fun today!" when they left my classroom. I also felt a constant pull to leverage technology in ways that made learning more personal and engaging. That passion led me into EdTech in 2020, where I worked with schools and districts to expand access to meaningful, student-centered learning. Then I discovered SchoolAI. The moment I read the mission "Make school awesome every day for students and the people supporting them by finding out what they need and making it happen," I knew I'd found a company whose purpose aligned deeply with my own. As both an educator and a mother, I have immense hope for what schools can be. When my daughter enters kindergarten, I want her teachers to take the time to discover what makes school awesome for her and her classmates and have the resources to make it happen. That's the future I believe in for all learners. I joined the SchoolAI Community Coach team in June, and every day, I'm reminded of why this work matters. Here's to the students who struggled, and the teachers who never gave up on them. 💙 We're so lucky to have you on our team Katie Ellis, M.Ed 🙌

  • How does your organization make sure every employee’s voice gets heard each week? For us at SchoolAI, the answer is Spaces. Every Tuesday, we use a Space in our All Hands meeting to celebrate, reflect, and spot where follow-up conversations are needed. "I get the feedback on who I need to spend time with that week." – Caleb Hicks, SchoolAI Founder & CEO 👉 Try a SchoolAI Space at your next team meeting and see what insights you gain.

  • “If I hadn’t had that, he would have just sat there,” Wilder said. "Wilder remembers the moment a Haitian Creole speaker arrived in her classroom last school year. Without any other way to gauge the student’s reading ability, she turned to the chatbot to generate a fourth grade level text as a starting point." "It takes less than a minute for Wilder to prompt the chatbot to adapt instructional materials into another language. The tool has saved her hours of prep time, she said."

Proud to share with OpenAI for Startups how we're building technology that helps teachers reach every student, every day. 👩🏫 When we started SchoolAI, we asked a simple question: How can AI help teachers do what they do best—connect with and guide each student? The answer shaped our platform: ✅ AI that enhances human connection — Real-time insights help teachers support each student more effectively ✅ AI that supports human curiosity — Personalized coaching meets students where they are ✅ AI that maintains trust and transparency — Every interaction is observable, safe, and aligned with classroom goals But here's what makes it work: Every interaction runs through dozens of specialized nodes with models, tools, and guardrails before responding. Smart orchestration uses the right models at the right time with safety checks at every step. The result? Students get structured support that reinforces real learning while teachers maintain full visibility and control. Today: 1M+ classrooms across 80+ countries. Teachers connect more deeply with students and save 10+ hours per week. Thank you OpenAI for Startups, especially Nick Pyne, Sarah Urbonas, and team for highlighting both our philosophy and the technical architecture that makes AI work for teachers and students at scale. AI is now the #1 EdTech priority for state education leaders. And states aren’t just curious — they’re taking action. The 2025 SETDA State EdTech Trends Report dropped last week, and it confirms: ▶️ State leaders are moving fast to integrate AI into classrooms ▶️ They’re hiring AI specialists, building PD pipelines, and funding AI pilots ▶️ They’re asking for tools that are safe, strategic, and scalable That’s exactly where SchoolAI shows up best. From Utah’s 4,500+ teachers trained, to North Carolina’s DLI-funded AI innovation, to Virginia’s CS standards embedding AI directly into instruction... We’re proud to support states building the future — not chasing it. 🧭 Read the full blog post for what this report signals to education leaders and see how SchoolAI is leading the way. • Happy International Dot Day! 🎨 Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' beloved book "The Dot," we're celebrating creativity and possibility at SchoolAI today. We've created custom Dot coloring pages and a fun Dot Creator Space where students can explore, create, and discover that sometimes the smallest mark can lead to the biggest breakthroughs. "Just make a mark and see where it takes you!" Today we're celebrating what makes each learner unique—their creativity, individuality, and ability to collaborate and grow together. Every student has a story to tell, and it often starts with something as simple as a single Dot! Here's to making marks that matter and helping every student find their own creative voice. Use our Space with your students today and color a Dot with your students! • "Curiosity is as important as intelligence in determining how well students do in school." - Association of Psychological Science Today we welcomed educators and administrators from Utah districts for hands-on professional development that put curiosity at the center of learning. We kicked off with an inspiring keynote from Holly Clark who reminded us that AI isn't about replacing the human connection in education—it's about amplifying it. Her message was clear: when we leverage real-time feedback and insights, we can meet every student exactly where they are and give them the support they need, when they need it. The magic happens when students lead with their own questions. When they take ownership of their learning. How can we support this? We dove into the platform with breakouts designed to help educators leverage Dot to support workflows, to explore PowerUps that respond to student curiosity, and to share ideas. Thanks for being with us, educators! This kind of collaboration helps us all stay curious - to explore what's possible and continue to make school awesome for students.
