In what ways is leadership like being a musician? I’m grateful to have the chance to share a condensed video of my comments from a very meaningful event that took place last week at the easternmost point in North America, Newfoundland 🇨🇦. Last Thursday, I was asked to provide remarks for a moment of reflection during Friday’s concluding program at ERDI Canada. As you can see in the video, I was very moved by the entire experience of this event. We are thankful to Michael Lee and the ERDI Canada Team for making this possible, and to all the EdTech Company Leaders and School District Superintendents from across Canada that each contributed to making this such an inspiring event. Prior to my remarks, we had just heard an award-winning ensemble from MacDonald Drive Junior High School conducted by Sarah Comerford.  They were one of the very best Junior High School ensembles many of us had ever heard.  This created yet another reminder of the level of excellence and collective impact that is possible when we each bring our individual strengths together to collaborate effectively as part of an exceptional "ensemble." As leaders, we each have a remarkable chance to be both a "conductor" and an individual member that is part of a broader “ensemble.” While I continue to reflect on the importance of exemplary “conducting” and of collaboration in leadership, I am realizing that there is great value in pausing to think about how we can each maximize these uplifting contributions to our own “ensemble.”  As you watch this video, I invite you to reflect on your leadership and consider how you might further enhance your role as both a conductor and a collaborative leader.

Code To The Future really enjoys the opportunity to be a thought partner with The League of Innovative Schools. We are appreciative of last week’s exciting Fall Convening, and all the hard work to make it a success. It was great to be in central California, with innovative schools and leaders.
