CTEH is joining industry leaders this week in Chicago at FETTI 2025! Our own Derek Drechsel, PhD, DABT, CIH will be presenting on “Microplastics: A Macro Problem?” to foster dialogue on how we can collectively address this pressing global issue. When floodwaters sweep through neighborhoods, they bring more than visible damage. Streets, homes, and work sites can be left with a dangerous mix of sewage, bacteria, pesticides, and industrial chemicals. These hidden threats do not disappear when the water does—they continue to affect health and the environment for weeks, months, and in some cases, years. Here is what lingers in the water and the environment long after the storm: 💧Microbial contamination: sewage, livestock runoff, and wildlife waste can spread pathogens 💧Chemical hazards: heavy metals, pesticides, solvents, and coal ash migrate into soil and groundwater. 💧Compounding dangers: bacteria and toxic chemicals often overlap, increasing the risk of severe infections and long-term health effects. 💧Lasting impacts: persistent pathogens, contaminated water supplies, and bioaccumulation in the food chain create chronic health and environmental challenges. CTEH has the expertise to evaluate and mitigate the complex risks that floodwaters bring. Our new blog unpacks these risks and shares steps for protecting health during recovery. 👉 Read the full article here: https://hubs.ly/Q03GyS-y0

With hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and other extreme weather events becoming more frequent, preparedness plays a key role in protecting people, property, and the environment. Every September, communities across the U.S. join FEMA, EPA, and other partners to recognize National Preparedness Month. This campaign highlights how critical it is for individuals, families, businesses, and communities to be ready for emergencies of all kinds. Preparedness is a daily commitment here at CTEH. Our scientists, toxicologists, industrial hygienists, and rapid responders work with clients to: ▪️ Develop tailored emergency response plans ▪️ Conduct environmental health assessments that inform decision-making during crises ▪️ Provide guidance for safe recovery and long-term resilience Earlier this month, we shared an article on our blog — Facing a Multi-Hazard Season: Why Proactive Preparedness Matters More Than Ever — which explores the growing risks of this season and the importance of planning ahead. Stay tuned as we continue to share insights and resources throughout September to help organizations and communities strengthen resilience. NPM serves as a powerful reminder: resilience does not happen by accident. It is achieved through planning, practice, and partnership. Whether you are leading a business, supporting a community, or safeguarding your family, investing in preparedness today helps ensure a safer tomorrow. #PreparednessMonth #EmergencyResponse #Resilience #PublicHealth #CTEH

True readiness means showing up for our clients and for each other with the skills, mindset, and support needed for success, even in high-pressure situations! As part of #SafeAndSoundWeek, we welcomed Dr. Dustin Worthen from Thrive Family Wellness to our Lunch and Learn yesterday for a conversation about stress, resilience, and what it really means to take care of ourselves in demanding environments. Dr. Worthen broke down three major types of stressors that affect our health over time and how they can show up in the body as subluxations: 🧠 Mental/Emotional: From high-intensity deployments to daily decision-making, the mental toll of response work can be heavy. 💪 Physical: Whether it’s boots-on-the-ground labor in the field or hours spent at a desk keeping operations running, physical strain adds up. 😷 Chemical/Toxic: Everyday exposures such as environmental pollutants, jobsite chemicals, and even coffee all contribute to our body’s stress load. And after a few deep, meaningful breaths, we were reminded: one of the most important ways we prepare others is by preparing ourselves. #SafeAndSoundAtWork #CTEH #Preparedness #StressTalk #WorkplaceWellness

This morning, the CTEH team took safety a step further with hands-on activities designed to reinforce preparedness through creativity, connection, and a little bit of fun. We walked our robotic dog, suited up in Level A and Level B fully encapsulating gear with help from our friends at E3 Environmental and practiced donning self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). One of the CTEH family members even took on the challenge of putting on full firefighter turnout gear - a future responder in the making! We wrapped up by practicing our PASS skills extinguishing real flames using an ABC fire extinguisher. Where else can you walk a robo-dog and put out a fire before lunch? #SafeAndSoundAtWork #CTEH #teambuilding #safetyculture #superpowerinpractice

Preparation is the foundation of effective emergency response. For Senior Consultant Josh Dubach, readiness is not just a step in the process. It is an ongoing cycle that equips teams to act with confidence when it matters most. This cycle is built on three key strengths: ✅ Plan. Train. Practice. The CTEH approach that turns readiness into action before the crisis begins. ✅ Tech that delivers. Drones, data platforms, and robotic K9s give responders speed, safety, and real-time insight. ✅ Always ready. Year-round training and shared lessons learned keep teams sharp across every industry we serve. Because when the call comes, we are not starting from zero. We are ready to respond with the people, tools, and experience it takes to get the job done. 🔗 Read the full interview here: https://hubs.ly/Q03CrR4D0 #SafeAndSoundAtWork #CTEH #EmergencyPreparedness #SafetyCulture
