Our Integration team is proud to have contributed to Body Odyssey at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, an immersive 8,500 sq. ft. exhibit that brings health and science to life through sound, light, and interactive technology. Designed by MDSX, Body Odyssey earned a Gold Muse Award for Experiential + Immersive Exhibit Design earlier this year. Our team helped bring this vision to life with carefully integrated audio, lighting, and control systems that power everything from heartbeat-synced sensory displays to interactive medical simulations. It’s rewarding to be part of a project that continues to engage and inspire visitors of all ages. Thanks to the entire team who helped bring this vision to life! On July 21, 1971, Bob Ulrich and Brian Pfahl arrived in a U-Haul at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, carrying sound equipment from the Clair Brothers' barn-turned-warehouse for a show featuring Humble Pie, Alice Cooper, and headliner Black Sabbath. The Philadelphia Inquirer described that night saying, “all hell broke loose with the amplifiers burning full speed ahead.” Former Clair employees remember working early Sabbath shows and engineer David Hendel recalls using what was likely Clair Brothers’ first four-way system at a Sabbath show in Hartford, CT. In 1979, Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne parted ways. Showco, Inc. would eventually become his audio provider. Robin Magruder (former Executive VP/General Manager of Showco) says production manager Paul Chavarria approached Showco before the 1991 “Theatre of Madness” tour where the team built custom stage monitors for Ozzy jokingly referred to as "the Mastodon" due to their size. This started a long history with Ozzy. In 1995, freelance engineer Greg Price assumed FOH duties for Ozzy and continued working for Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and Ozzfest to the present. Paul Jump's first tour with our company was Ozzfest for Clair/Showco in 2001, and he continued working with Osbourne for the next nine years, describing his work with the singer as “a lot of fun.” On July 5th, Black Sabbath gave their final performance in Birmingham, England, assisted by Clair Global, Britannia Row, AudioRent, and Diablo Digital. You can read a more about this event at https://lnkd.in/emXZ7iG2 . Ozzy passed just a few weeks later, on July 22nd. We're humbled to share a long history with Ozzy, a true rock icon. The legacy of Clair and our brands, like Showco, is being preserved at the Clair Global Archives. 📷 1: Paul and Ozzy via Paul Jump 2: via the Phila Daily News 3: via the Clair Global Archives.

Our own Al Woods and Dana Beaudin recently led training sessions as part of MDLBEAST’s BeastEd program in Riyadh, combining lectures with hands-on workshops. The program is designed to prepare the next generation of event and entertainment professionals in Saudi Arabia with practical skills and industry knowledge through immersive learning and real-world scenarios. It’s always a privilege to share knowledge with the next generation of our industry. The curiosity and drive we saw in this group give us hope for the future. We look forward to seeing many of them build lasting careers in live events, perhaps even alongside us one day.

Sixty years ago, fifty thousand fans packed New York’s Shea Stadium to see The Beatles. Hearing the Fab Four would prove to be a more challenging, and ultimately futile, endeavor. In 1965, stadium concerts were virtually non-existent, as were touring sound companies. Eight months later, Gene and Roy Clair would meet The Four Seasons at F&M College, marking the beginning of Clair Bros. Audio. For The Beatles’ Shea debut, they relied on the stadium’s existing PA, their 100-watt Vox guitar amplifiers, and approximately fifty column speakers lining the infield. The band didn’t stand a chance against the screaming fans. Comparatively, Billy Joel played Shea Stadium’s final show prior to its 2009 demolition. For the July 18, 2008 concert, Joel’s front-of-house engineer Brian Ruggles requested the “muscle car of sound systems”. The S-4 point-source system provided by Clair Global comprised of one hundred and sixty S-4’s (eighty per side) and sixteen S-4 subs (eight per side). Additionally, four hangs of six R-4’s were used for delays. P-2’s and R-4’s were used for front fills. A variety of amplifiers drove the system, making it difficult to estimate total wattage. However, it’s suspected approximately 280,000 watts were needed to drive the S-4 mains, alone. Try screaming over that.
