His work on the maintenance crew ensures these amenities will be there for the next generation. “I grew up in Spencer Creek. I swam at Laurel Pool.” Even today, he’s still a park user! • “My work connects to the people in the community because I’m directly informing them of things that are happening in their community.”   Jane got her start as a student at Lindenwood University, and her first job out of college turned into something more meaningful: serving her hometown community as a part-time Video Technician.   From covering local events to sharing important updates, Jane sees her work as a way to give back to the same St. Peters community where she grew up.   “I did grow up here … now that I work here again, it's been really rewarding.”   Jane is another great example of the Difference Makers who represent the City of St. Peters with pride and purpose. • Mark wrote his first story when he was 10 years old and won second place in a state contest. “I was hooked.” In college, he wanted to be a high school English teacher with dreams of writing in his free time. “But I really liked working at the Parks Department here in St. Peters, so I changed my day job.” Mark traded the classroom for St. Peters Parks but never stopped writing. Recently, his story “Children of the Revolution” received first place in the 2024 Short Fiction Contest for Emerging Writers at Boulevard Magazine. It’s his eighth published short story and one day Mark hopes to publish a novel of literary fiction. Pursue your passions on or off the clock. • Cutting at over 10,000 RPMs, chainsaws are dangerous pieces of equipment. That’s why ArborMaster training is so important to our St. Peters Parks Department crews. Whether it’s daily tree work or cleaning up after a storm, they need to feel safe and confident in their abilities to use this tool.   Members of our Parks Department recently talked to us after recent ArborMaster training that taught them about chainsaw maintenance, practice cuts, and more.   Patrick told us, “ArborMaster gave me a chance to hone my skills.” Another crew member, Luke, appreciated the hands-on training.   St. Peters puts employee safety first. • “People can use what happened to them as a crutch or a springboard, and I chose to use it as a springboard.”   Patrol Officer Beatty lives by those words while protecting the residents of St. Peters. Raised by nuns in south St. Louis, Officer Beatty used his life experiences to become a police officer. He understands the importance of listening to people when they are having a bad day or in need of help.   “Sometimes all they need to do is talk it out and for me to listen, listen to listen, not just listen to talk. It can do wonders.”   Congratulations to Officer Beatty for being recognized as Officer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2025. His commitment to St. Peters residents is making a difference in our community.   Do you want to be a Difference Maker too? The City of St. Peters has a variety of job openings. Apply at www.stpetersmo.net/jobs.
