San Mateo is a city of approximately 100,000 residents, strategically located midway between San Francisco and San Jose, and is within the Silicon Valley. One of the City’s strengths is its diversity, both in the ethnic makeup and the physical development of the community. 🌟We are happy to announce that, Abby Veeser has been appointed as the City of San Mateo's Finance Director In her new role, Veeser will manage the City’s Finance Department, including overseeing the City’s annual $272 million operating budget, the Capital Improvement Program totaling $61.5 million for Fiscal Year 2025–26, and core services including accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, treasury and revenue management, payroll, purchasing and accounts payable, and debt service. She will also serve as Treasurer of the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department. “Abby’s deep financial expertise, collaborative leadership style, and long-standing commitment to public service make her an exceptional choice for Finance Director,” said City Manager Alex Khojikian. Veeser has held leadership roles in multiple Bay Area cities, including Assistant Director of Finance and Administrative Services for the City of Daly City, Business Manager for San Mateo’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments, and Management Analyst and Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Los Altos. Her experience spans financial analysis, budgeting, labor negotiations, software implementation project management, capital planning, and the management of enterprise and special revenue funds. “I am excited to serve the San Mateo community in this role. I have had the privilege of working for the City of San Mateo organization at varying stages of my career and I look forward to working with the City team to maintain both its fiscal sustainability and strong work culture,” Veeser said. 🌏✨ The City of San Mateo is honored to take part in the Osaka-Kansai 2025 World Expo, further deepening our more than 60-year Sister City relationship with Toyonaka, Japan. This week, Mayor Rob Newsom, Jr. , City Manager Alex Khojikian, and Deputy City Clerk Chantal Eaton are in Toyonaka for a formal visit with Mayor Osanai and fellow dignitaries. Today, our cities exchanged insights on key policy priorities, from sustainability to civic innovation, reaffirming our shared commitment to international collaboration.
