If our walls could talk, they would share countless stories of hope, healing and of the amazing people who have dedicated their entire careers to the kids we serve. This year, we are honoring nearly 1,500 employees and physicians who are celebrating a milestone anniversary at Children’s. Among them are three remarkable employees—Greg Carey, Linda Cole and Vicky Dearing—who have dedicated 35, 40 and 50 years of service to our mission. They embody what it means to be committed to doing everything possible to make anything possible for kids. 💚

New research led by Dr. Nathalie Maitre, a neonatologist and pediatrician at Children’s, shows that a social media-delivered intervention can significantly reduce stress and increase developmental knowledge among parents of young children with motor delays. The study was powerful for parents, who reported that their child’s motor progress also increased. Melissa, a mom who participated in the study, shared that her son, Jayden, has come a long way. “It was life-changing to realize that my child wasn’t behind but simply taking another route to get to where he needs to be,” she said. Step into a day in the life of Dr. Shari Barkin, Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children’s and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. Like many of our physician leaders, she splits her time between clinical, research and administrative work. But long before her time at Children's, Dr. Barkin considered many different careers, including engineering, accounting and even professional dancing. But a personal health experience during college changed her perspective and set her on a path to medicine.

Our joint initiative with Mercer University School of Medicine and the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center, At Mercer University School of Medicine, called Kids Alliance for Better Care (KidsABC), is connecting Children’s with hospitals and pediatricians in rural counties to help provide pediatric care closer to home. Dr. Nicholas Fletcher, our Medical Director of Spine Quality and Outcomes, is leading the way in pediatric orthopedic surgeries. We are excited to welcome our new Chief Operating Officer, Scott Turner, to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Scott brings more than 28 years of healthcare experience to Children’s, including 18 years in pediatrics.
