Today we honor Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history, that marks the end of slavery in Texas and across the nation. On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free by executive decree. This day, known as Juneteenth, has grown to symbolize freedom and resilience across the nation. As the oldest-known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth has been observed in Texas since 1866 and was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021. Today marks 160 years since that historic moment and it continues to serve as a day of reflection, education, and action. At CEC Entertainment, we celebrate Juneteenth by honoring the strength, courage, and contributions of Black Americans. We recognize the importance of honoring the past, celebrating the progress, and acknowledging the work still ahead. We are proud to uplift Black voices, stories, and contributions — and reaffirm our commitment to building a future where all communities can thrive.
