Description

Objective:

The course objective is to refine professional and career development skills while preparing for a successful transition to a work-based experience. Through five micro-learning modules, students will practice strategies for navigating a new company and professional relationships, develop a career portfolio, plan long-term career and education goals, enhance critical job search skills, and effectively conclude a work-based experience. This course supports securing a full-time professional job aligned with student career interests.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop and implement strategies to manage complex workplace situations by identifying support structures and professional resources.
  • Create a compelling professional brand through a well-crafted elevator pitch, a refined LinkedIn profile, and constructive colleague feedback.
  • Construct a clear, realistic, actionable professional development plan with measurable learning goals for on-the-job training, self-driven upskilling, and long-term career growth.
  • Develop and apply skills in resume writing, cover letter development, LinkedIn optimization, career research, and job search tracking to secure career opportunities aligned with personal and professional goals.
  • Prepare for and execute interviews using STAR storytelling techniques, conduct strategic follow-up, assess job offers, and negotiate salary and benefits to align with long-term career and financial objectives.
  • Establish a structured plan for the first 90 days of a new job, including understanding workplace norms, setting professional development goals, building key relationships, and leveraging support systems.
