Description

Objective:

The course objective is to build upon the concepts taught in English Composition I by focusing on a research perspective. In this course, students are introduced to research techniques for academic writing and practice navigating the steps of the research process. Students start by choosing a topic that is meaningful to them and then develop critical research and writing skills, as they prepare to complete a final 6 to 8-page argumentative research essay.

  • Articulate the purpose and scope of academic writing.
  • Outline an argumentative essay around a thesis statement and secondary academic resources.
  • Complete a first draft of an argumentative essay that is persuasive, evidence-based, and well structured.
