Description

Objective:

The course objective is to demonstrate mastery of basic lab safety procedures and basic lab equipment by being able to properly handle lab equipment and explain the need for the approved procedures

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate understanding of biological laboratory safety, including proper use of safety equipment and interpretation of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Set up, create, and maintain a laboratory notebook following standard practices
  • Develop hypotheses and apply the scientific method to laboratory investigations
  • Perform basic laboratory math relevant to scientific procedures
  • Accurately use pipettes and other standard laboratory equipment
  • Follow written standard operating procedures (SOPs) in laboratory settings
  • Successfully complete a hands-on practical assessment to demonstrate proficiency and readiness for advancement
  • Exhibit both academic knowledge and practical competency across all course topics
